As a sport angler you will have to pay heed to a number of laws and rules, for example, relating to required fishing documents, periodic bans on certain bait and fish types, minimum size fish and protected fish. These laws and rules are divided into two areas:

Besides the legislation for fisheries, there is also a code of conduct with rules on how to treat fish, the use of lead and keep nets and specific codes for the Dutch Carp Research Group (Karperstudiegroep Nederland).
